- Human-computer interaction
- Conversational AI
- Health
Amama Mahmood is a Malone Postdoctoral Fellow advised by Chien-Ming Huang, Paul Yi, and Ziang Xiao, an assistant professor of computer science. She is also affiliated with the Intuitive Computing Laboratory.
Her research interests lie at the intersection of human-computer interaction and health, focusing on the design of conversational agents to empower people and promote their well-being. Specifically, she develops conversational agents powered by large language models that enable seamless, adaptive interactions by understanding user behaviors in various real-world contexts. With a focus on empowering older adults in managing their health to facilitate aging in place, her work emphasizes situated, long-term, “in the wild” human-machine interactions.
A Fulbright Scholar, Mahmood holds a PhD in computer science and an MSE in robotics from the Johns Hopkins University.
